White People Against ICE: solidarity with Minneapolis and how we fight back everywhere

Last night, over 1600 people gathered on Zoom to hear from immigrant rights organizers and folks on the ground in Minneapolis, to be in community in our grief, fear, and anger, and to learn how we can move into action. We heard from a SURJ Twin Cities organizer about what’s happening on the ground in Minneapolis and how we can plug into the work from anywhere in the country. We also heard from an organizer from our immigrant rights organizing partners at Solidarity Organizing Initiative, and a moving story from a SURJ member in California about how she first got involved with SURJ in 2024.

“White supremacy and patriarchy, they want us to believe that we have to be perfect and expert before we can take any action. But I am here to tell you that that is just not true. I know exactly what it’s like to take a leap. Whether it’s phone banking, or meeting new people, or traveling across the country to talk to strangers, to take that leap and find out that there are folks waiting with a hand to pull me up and in. And I’m extending my hand now and inviting all of you to join us.” –Lisa, SURJ member

Here is a recording of the call, which includes the script and captions.
