Our Work in Combating White Nationalism in this Moment: A mass call for anti-racist white people

Last night, we had an important conversation with a panel of speakers who are leading organizations at the forefront of resisting this regime, including Fahd Ahmed, grassroots organizer and Executive Director of DRUM (Desis Rising Up & Moving) and Reverend Liz Theoharis, Director of the Kairos Center for Religions, Rights, and Social Justice and Co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. We talked about the urgency of this moment, the historical forces that have brought us to this point, what the movement needs to do right now to build and challenge these forces, and how to sustain hope in times like these.

“The reality is that the right wing has been building this ecosystem, this infrastructure, and then there are so many other variations of it. They’ve been building that for four decades. We’re not gonna overcome that by taking one action or something very briefly in one week, one month, in one election cycle, by the midterms or by next year. Obviously, we do need to tend to things in the short term, but we really do need to commit ourselves to our communities, to our people, and to active struggles to transform society for the long term.”—Fahd Ahmed

We have important tasks ahead of us to build power each year, to bring in thousands of new white people to this work, and to make an anti-racist, working-class-first vision for this country common sense.
