MAGA can’t have our people: a mass call for white people with loved ones who voted for Trump

Last night, almost 1000 people logged on to “MAGA can’t have our people: a mass call for white people with loved ones who voted for Trump” to talk about how to navigate difficult conversations with family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers who support Trump and the MAGA movement.

Folks on the call heard a powerful conversation with Beth Macy, author of Dopesick, about speaking to people across the political divide, the current stakes, and why it’s so important to have these dialogues in the South in particular.

“Any little chance to create a little crack of empathy, and also to acknowledge that where you are in this moment, that this is really scary stuff to talk about, and awkward.”

We also heard from a SURJ member in Virginia, Cayce, about their experiences with canvassing and phonebanking– and why it’s so crucial to get involved in this race, no matter where you live!

We were lucky to have a special performance by Tennessee musician Nathan Evans Fox as well.
