Biden Is Out: Mass Meeting Regroup

With Biden out and Kamala Harris presumptively in as the Democratic nominee for president, we’re ready to cut through the noise and get to work.

Come together in community with other SURJ folks tomorrow night, Monday July 22, at 8 pm ET for a space to make sense of this political moment, process your feelings about this wild week, and re-group and commit to the work ahead.

In the midst of an already chaotic year, we’re keeping our eyes on the prize: keeping the MAGA movement from gaining more power in the federal government. We are clear that advancing anything our movements for change care about– climate, housing, racial justice, worker’s rights, abortion protection and more– will be nearly impossible under an authoritarian government.

We also know that with Kamala Harris as the presumptive nominee, the far right will ruthlessly use racism and misogyny in their strategy to win over white voters.

People of color will overwhelmingly support the Democratic nominee. As white people, it’s on us to take up the responsibility to out-organize MAGA in white communities.

SURJ was born out of a moment much like this one in 2009. We were founded in response to the racist backlash to the first Black president and the rise of a white Christian nationalist movement that used racism to break white support for the Affordable Care Act. We are about to see that same strategic racism, sexism, and homophobia as the core strategy to try to defeat Kamala and advance authoritarianism in the U.S.

SURJ has 15+ years of organizing white communities away from racism and towards solidarity at our back.

In this moment, showing up for racial justice is going to look like fighting the strategic racism the GOP is going to bombard white communities with.

And it’s going to mean working to ensure white progressive who are with us show up at the polls in November. We have a really strong plan to organize 12 million white voters in six swing states that will be critical to blocking Trump, Vance, and the MAGA movement.

Join us tomorrow to connect with like-minded folks, get grounded in an analysis of this moment, and join our work to stop MAGA and build the power of our movements to deliver change for the long haul.

Can’t make the call? Can you give a gift today to grow our work to reach white voters and stop MAGA’s racist divide and conquer strategy?
