Coming off the heels of our massive victory in Rep. Summer Lee’s race, SURJ pivoted to protect Rep. Bowman’s seat in NY-16. Bowman’s challenger, George Lattimer, was recruited by AIPAC and received $600,000 from the far right-aligned Super PAC. And just like Summer Lee’s opponent, he began accepting large checks from MAGA super donors. These donors have been responsible for putting far-right candidates in office who are banning books about racial justice, criminalizing protest, and gutting abortion rights.

AIPAC and MAGA megadonors had to spend $18 million to beat us. And this is a testament to the power of our movements – they know we are a serious threat. In the midst of this loss, we are building infrastructure for more fights ahead.
Over 1,000 SURJ members took action with us on this campaign, taking on challenging persuasion conversations with conflicted white voters who were being bombarded with racist dog whistles and misinformation. Our chapters in Westchester and New York City led our efforts to canvass 3,700 households. And we made 280k calls and hit 7k doors together.
