Ashley (she/her/hers) is from a working-class background, and grew up in rural Kansas. Prior to joining SURJ, she worked several years as a union organizer and was the volunteer coordinator at a low-wage workers’ center for many years. She has both worked as a correctional officer in a private prison and has campaigned against private prisons in Tennessee, in addition to organizing in Kansas around out-of-state prison transfers and jail conditions at a local jail near her hometown. She also helped found the Nashville, TN SURJ chapter. She loves gardening, running, animals, hiking, and being near the ocean.
